Updated Child Abuse Reporting Training Requirements

ALL licensed dentists and dental hygienists who completed an "once in a lifetime" course must now complete a new Child Abuse Reporting course. This includes newly licensed dentists who completed a New York residency program as of 2023. This course must be completed by April 1, 2025.

A New ADA Dental Claim Form Coming in January 2024!

A new version of the ADA Claim Form and its updated completion instructions will be effective January 1, 2024. The ADA Dental Claim Form provides a common format for reporting dental services to a patient's dental benefit plan. ADA policy promotes use and acceptance of the most current version of the ADA Dental Claim Form by dentists and payers.

New Federal Mandate (MATE) Update

(Effective June 26) The Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act, passed by Congress as part of the Omnibus Bill of 2022, mandates most practitioners licensed to prescribe controlled substances, including dentists, complete eight hours of one-time training on safely prescribing controlled substances (Schedules II, III IV, and/or V) in order to receive or renew their registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Dental loss ratio model legislation receives final stamp of approval

Bill would set transparency standards for dental insurance plans
The National Council of Insurance Legislators, or NCOIL, provided a final stamp of approval for model legislation addressing a dental loss ratio. NCOIL’s Executive Committee approved on April 14 a slate of models adopted previously by various subcommittees; this included the DLR model, which sets transparency standards for dental coverage and ensures that patients with dental insurance get more value out of their dental plans.
