The Second District Dental Society is the local component of the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association representing 1,400 member dentists in Brooklyn and Staten Island. It is our hope that this website provides our members with information that will aid them in making the most out of their membership. Additionally, we hope to provide the public with a source of information about our society and members to demonstrate our commitment to excellence and the preservation of oral health.

Synopsis:This lecture provides a comprehensive introduction to veneer restorations, designed for early-career dentists seeking to build confidence in aesthetic dentistry. The session will cover the fundamental principles of veneer treatment including patient assessment, smile analysis and case selection. Attendees will learn step-by-step treatment planning strategies, from diagnostic mock-ups to precise tooth preparation techniques, as well as guidance on material selection and managing occlusion for long-term success. The lecture will also explore esthetic design considerations including color matching, shape and proportion, along with practical tips to handle common clinical challenges. Emphasis will be placed on achieving predictable, high-quality results through a combination of evidence-based protocols and practical clinical experience. By the end of the session, participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to integrate veneer restorations effectively into their daily practice.

This lecture will introduce attendees to veneer restoration covering the core principles, treatment planning strategies and techniques necessary to achieve predictable aesthetic outcomes. Upon successful completion of the lecture, participants will gain practical insights into material selection, tooth preparation and smile design, equipping them with the foundational knowledge to confidently incorporate veneers into their clinical practice.

Refund and Cancellation Policy:
All requests for refunds or credits must be made in writing or by phone and received at least two weeks prior to the course date. A full refund, less a ten dollar ($10.00) administrative charge, or if requested and available, credit for a similarly priced course will be issued. Refunds or credits requested after this date will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival for courses and/or weather conditions. In the event that a course is cancelled by Second District, paid tuition will be fully refunded.


BERNADETTE SAWA, D.D.S. is a highly skilled prosthodontist, an associate professor at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD), and an aesthetic dentistry expert with over a decade of experience in full-mouth reconstruction, implant dentistry and smile design. A graduate of Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and a Rutgers-trained prosthodontist, she combines advanced training from the Kois Center and Spear Education with a passion for innovation and teaching. Dr. Sawa lectures nationally on facially driven prosthodontics and aesthetic treatment planning and is actively involved in shaping future dentists through her work at NYUCD’s APA Fellowship and Northwell Hospital's residency program. She is a proud member of leading dental organizations, including the American College of Prosthodontists and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. With a commitment to precision, artistry and compassionate care, Dr. Sawa is recognized for delivering exceptional results in complex restorative and aesthetic dentistry.

At the direction of SDDS President Dr. Paul Teplitsky, the Constitution & Bylaws Committee, chaired by Dr. Phyllis Merlino, completed the first full revision of the Constitution & Bylaws in more than 10 years. After four months of careful review, the Committee updated outdated language, streamlined committee structures, clarified roles and responsibilities, and modernized provisions to better serve members.
