Featured Clinician:

Diplomate, American Board of Endodontics

Synopsis:
Dental caries is one of the most prevalent dental diseases worldwide, commonly leading to pulp inflammation. Root canal treatment is widely recognized as the standard approach for managing teeth with inflamed pulps resulting from caries. With advancements in the understanding of pulp biology and in dental materials, specifically calcium silicate biomaterials, vital pulp therapy has become an increasingly predictable treatment option even for mature, permanent teeth and teeth diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis.

This case-based presentation will review the histopathology of caries and the healing potential of the inflamed pulp, review various treatment options such as minimally invasive techniques, indirect pulp capping, partial pulpotomy, full pulpotomy, root canal therapy, extraction and the expected outcomes of each approach. We will review the steps of performing vital pulp therapy and the applications of different materials. This presentation will give you the tools and confidence to tackle any clinical challenges in treating deep carious lesions. Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will learn:

  • Case selection for various treatment options and understand the expected outcomes for each approach.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the essential steps involved in performing vital pulp therapy.
  • A review of materials in managing deep carious lesions.
