Featured Clinician:
Mariam Vonderheide Pincus, D.M.D.
Former Attending, Brookdale Hospital Medical Center

Synopsis:
This lecture will review the different types of prosthetic complications that can arise during a variety of implant dentistry treatments, including implant-supported fixed complete dentures, implant overdentures, implant-supported fixed partial dentures and single implant crowns. These types of complications, which relate specifically to the restoration itself, are distinct from surgical complications and concerns about implant survival. As restorative dentists, we are likely to encounter prosthetic complications of implant restorations whether or not we planned and completed these restoration ourselves, as patients may develop these issues any time during the lifespan of the restoration.

The lecture will cover the causes of complications, such as prosthetic fractures, screw loosening, gingival issues and esthetic compromises. It will also discuss strategies to address and avoid these clinical situations. This lecture will stress the importance of communication and coordination between the surgical and restorative teams for successful treatment planning and execution of implant restorations. Upon successful completion of this lecture, attendees will be able to diagnose prosthetic complications that arise in implant dentistry, identify potential risk factors that may lead to these types of complications, evaluate these complications as they are seen in their practice and determine an appropriate course of action to address these situations.
