The Second District Dental Society is the local component of the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association representing 1,400 member dentists in Brooklyn and Staten Island. It is our hope that this website provides our members with information that will aid them in making the most out of their membership. Additionally, we hope to provide the public with a source of information about our society and members to demonstrate our commitment to excellence and the preservation of oral health.

*Dr. Jessica Li will be replacing Dr. Lydia Lam, who was previously scheduled to present at this meeting. 

 

This comprehensive lecture will provide dental professionals with an advanced understanding of the multidisciplinary management of patients with cleft lip, palate and craniofacial anomalies. Topics covered will include the etiology and classification of craniofacial differences, early diagnosis and the importance of a coordinated care team. The lecture will delve into surgical interventions, such as cleft repair and craniofacial reconstruction, and explore orthodontic and prosthetic strategies tailored to these complex cases. Emphasis will be placed on treatment sequencing, timing and long-term follow up to optimize functional, aesthetic and psychological outcomes. 

This session will also highlight the importance of patient-centered and collaborative care to improve quality of life. Attendees will leave equipped with practical knowledge to enhance their clinical practice and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Upon successful completion of this lecture, attendees will learn multiple components of cleft and craniofacial surgery, including the complex dental management of patients with cleft and craniofacial differences.

At the direction of SDDS President Dr. Paul Teplitsky, the Constitution & Bylaws Committee, chaired by Dr. Phyllis Merlino, completed the first full revision of the Constitution & Bylaws in more than 10 years. After four months of careful review, the Committee updated outdated language, streamlined committee structures, clarified roles and responsibilities, and modernized provisions to better serve members.

No. 1379, a bill that proposes removing fluoride from New York City’s municipal drinking water and dismantling one of the most significant public health achievements of the past century.
