Synopsis:

This lecture will showcase the profound impact that international community service has had on the speaker’s life and how it can bring immense gratification to yours. By providing dental care to underserved populations, practitioners gain a broad perspective on life, cultures and dentistry. It will also cover the entire process of facilitating dental mission trips, from planning to execution. During some of these trips, volunteer dentists don’t see the work site until the day of the event and are tasked with creating their dental clinic in any available space. Clinics are set up in classrooms, hair salons, storage rooms and medical offices. The thought process and systems used to set up these clinics quickly and efficiently will be discussed. Additionally, the cultural aspects of international community service, as well as the rules and regulations of working in another country, will also be reviewed. If you are interested in service and curious about how to select the right trip for you and participate in a mission, please join us and learn.

Upon successful completion of this lecture, dental practitioners will be inspired and equipped with the knowledge, skills and motivation to participate in dental mission trips, thereby improving global oral health and making a meaningful impact in underserved communities. This lecture will also highlight the profound personal and professional benefits of volunteering, share success stories from past missions and provide practical guidance on how to get involved.
