Synopsis:
This course will cover select topics to provide attendees with a unique mixture of useful knowledge they can take to their practices tomorrow to elevate their knowledge, skill, expertise and experience. These select topics include:

  1. Ten sequential steps to successful treatment planning: This is the number one presentation any dentist engaging in comprehensive treatment must go through in order to achieve excellent results. Comprehensive dental treatment includes proper interview of the patient, defining criteria for success, examination of physical findings and biologic limitations, obtaining proper radiographic and photographic records and proceeding with proper treatment.
  2. Methods of provisionalization: Comprehensive dental treatment relies on the proper transition from a failing dentition to a successful aesthetic reconstruction. Several methods of provisionalization will be covered in particular proper staging, emergence profile development and incorporation of ovate pontic design into final restorations.
  3. Segmental record taking in fixed/implant driven prosthodontics: The most common error in restorative dentistry is a result of inadequate interocclusal records. It results in restorations that are delivered from the laboratory and upon delivery to the patient, hours are spent in adjusting the occlusion. Understanding vertical dimension of occlusion and its communication to the laboratory for final production of the prosthesis is critical. This section will go over multiple ways of obtaining proper interocclusal records/bite registration. Emphasis will be on understanding historical and conventional methodology and its extrapolation to contemporary digital dentistry.
  4. What is a prosthodontist?: A life story of a real prosthodontic reconstruction. Rather than discussing separate procedures, this portion of the course will tell the story of a staged placement and restoration and the transition of the patient from a failing dentition to a final tooth born, implant-retained reconstruction and its follow-up over the years as the restorations age, problems arise and solutions have to be developed.

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Approach complex dental cases with proper treatment planning skill.
  2. Understand the necessity of incorporating proper provisional restorations and communicate the information to the laboratory for technical support and production of a final restoration.
  3. Benefit from the expertise and hindsight that is developed by following treatment over the years.
