Synopsis:
After many years of implant use in dentistry, there are a number of issues that have arisen. How do we develop occlusion on various implant restorations? Do we develop different occlusal schemes for single units vs. splinted restorations? How do we deal with restoring unknown implants designed by companies that have gone out of business? How do we incorporate digital dentistry into the restorative phase of implantology? This lecture will discuss similarities and differences of occlusion on teeth and on single unit implants. We will then discuss how occlusion helps us determine the type of restorative material. Finally, we’ll discuss how to deal with complex implant restorative cases and complications that arise.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Review occlusal concepts on teeth
  2. Review similarities and differences in occlusion for teeth and implants
  3. How do our restorations influence a good tissue response
  4. How occlusion can help determine material choice for prosthesis
  5. Dealing with the “implant of the month” club – finding mystery implants and utilizing them
  6. Discuss incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and digital dentistry into implant restorations
  7. T.I.S.P. (Tooth to Implant Supported Prosthesis) – Can we join implants to natural teeth?
