Synopsis:
As we emerge from the pandemic, we note that people in our area are back in full force. They are enjoying longer and more vibrant lives than ever before. With that comes the demand for quality of life delivered by an esthetic and functional dentition. At the same time, patients are often managing long term, chronic health conditions and using long-term medications, which have downstream effects on not only their oral health but also impact the care we provide.

Balancing patient demands with increasingly complex cases is complicated by the level of information and misinformation out there, which patient expectations. As information becomes more readily available to the public, understanding how research findings, novel tissue engineering and imaging can be implemented in a personalized way that is unique to each patient is helpful in treatment planning and management. This is particularly of note when it comes to translating the findings around oral-systemic wellness to chairside application. Technologic advances and research breakthroughs couple with multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams to empower us to meet and exceed these patient demands. This places our profession at the center of a tremendous opportunity.

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will:

  • Recognize sophisticated cases as a practice building opportunity
  • Enumerate root causes of case complexity
  • Learn strategies to leverage multidisciplinary, interspecialty and interprofessional teams in optimizing sophisticated case outcomes
  • Learn strategies to navigate patient information vs. misinformation and emerging information especially as it relates to the oral-systemic link
  • Understand how to bring often nebulous research findings to chairside implementation
