Medical emergencies don’t announce themselves preoperatively. When they occur, dentists and their staffs have to think quickly and react accordingly. Panic and stress often grip the dental team that is not accustomed to dealing with this urgency. This presentation will review actions dentists and their staffs can implement in their practice preventively. Emergency equipment will be explained and a simple emergency drug kit geared toward the general practitioner will be reviewed. The most common medical emergencies and the steps the dental team can implement immediately, while calling EMS, will be discussed.

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will:

  1. Understand the preventative steps to be taken before an emergency arises
  2. Review the equipment needed in an emergency
  3. Prepare an individualized emergency drug kit
  4. Review the most common emergencies and their treatment
