Synopsis:

Systemic inflammatory/autoimmune conditions have been on a steady increase over the last 20 years. The percentage of our patient population with these conditions has also increased and is expected to increase further in the post-pandemic era. The dental and orofacial manifestations of these conditions can range from subtle to frank. Understanding the disease process, tissue involvement and pathogenesis is paramount to screening, detection and management of these patients. These patients may experience delayed healing and disproportionate post-operative pain.

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will have learned about:

  • Systemic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions
  • Salient manifestation of systemic inflammatory conditions on the dental and orofacial structures
  • Concept of pathophysiology
  • Screening patients in the dental practice
  • Management of dental patients with systemic inflammatory conditions
