DESCRIPTION:Venue:Hilton Garden Inn1100 South Avenue at Lois LaneStaten Isl

ormer Clinical Professor\, Columbia University College of Dental MedicineS
ynopsis:This presentation will examine six key protocols that represent bo
th classical foundations and ongoing controversies in prosthetic and impla
nt dentistry. Topics to be reviewed include: Implant-assisted removable ov
erdenturesConnecting natural teeth to dental implantsUnilateral cantilever
off of dental implantsExtracting teeth in the era of implant dentistryThe
semi-precision removable partial dentureThe dental implant or the retaine
d tooth Each topic will be approached from a practical\, evidence-based pe
rspective emphasizing biomechanical principles\, material selection and tr
eatment planning rationale. The goal is to integrate sound prosthodontic r
easoning with contemporary implant concepts while maintaining respect for
biological and functional limits. Through clinical case reviews\, literatu
re summaries and procedural illustrations\, participants will review the f
actors that guide restorative choice\, longevity and patient-centered outc
omes. Emphasis will be placed on critical evaluation of conventional versu
s implant-assisted options\, “optimal” versus alternate treatment plans an
d decision-making in various restorative scenarios. Attendees will leave w
ith a structured framework for analyzing diverse treatment possibilities a
nd selecting approaches that achieve meaningful clinical outcomes with rea
listic parameters of risk\, cost and patient preference. Upon successful c
ompletion of this course\, attendees will be able to: Analyze the bio-mech
anical and biological principles that influence treatment planning across
classical and implant-based restorative options.Compare and contrast conve
 ntional\, semi-precision and implant-assisted prosthetic designs relative
to longevity\, maintenance and patient satisfaction.Evaluate evidence supp
orting various restorative connections—including tooth-to-implant and cant
ilever configurations—within clinical and risk management frameworks. Form
ulate patient-specific treatment plans that balance esthetics\, function\,
cost and biologic preservation while pursuing “optimal” outcomes.Apply a
structured\, evidence-based decision process when determining whether to r
etain or extract teeth in prosthetic rehabilitation cases.Participants wil
l also be able to critically evaluate available options and make treatment
-planning decisions that integrate sound evidence\, clinical judgement and
practical alternatives to achieve patient-centered outcomes. MCEU - 6 HOU
