 this event. RONIT\nGILAD\, M.D.\, who\nalways knew she wanted to be a phys
 ician\, earned her medical degree at New York\nUniversity Grossman School 
 of Medicine. She completed a neurosurgery residency\nand an enfolded fello
 wship in neuroradiology at Mount Sinai Hospital. She\ncurrently serves as 
 chair of neurosurgery at Staten Island University Hospital\n(SIUH) and ass
 istant professor of neurosurgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker\nSchool 
 of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Before joining Northwell in 2017\, she\n
 was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy and a staff neurosurg
 eon\nat the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth\, Virginia. Dr. Gilad is al
 so a member\nof the Katz Institute for Women's Health\, the American Assoc
 iation of\nNeurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons
 . She has a\nsurgical focus in treating patients with brain and skull base
  tumors\, including\nmeningioma and pituitary masses\, and also has specia
 l interests in spine\nsurgery and motion preservation in people with degen
 erative disc conditions and\nspinal stenosis. She specializes in minimally
  invasive procedures\, including\ntubular retractation system surgery for 
 deep brain tumors\, which involves\nmaking a single small incision in the 
 skull and inserting a narrow tube-like\nsurgical tool through delicate hea
 lthy brain tissue to remove the tumor.\nTubular retraction can also be use
 d to remove spinal tumors. To improve the\naccuracy of surgery\, she routi
 nely uses state-of-the-art equipment such as the\nexoscope\, which project
 s high-definition\, three-dimensional images onto a large\nscreen in the o
 perating room. While\nshe has extensive training and experience as a surge
 on and loves the hands-on\napproach to care that surgery provides\, Dr. Gi
 lad also helps patients explore\nnon-surgical treatment options\, includin
 g medication and radiation therapy\,\nstating that "There is no one formul
 a. I take patient preferences into\nconsideration and think outside the bo
 x to make sure people's needs are\nmet." She emphasizes the importance of 
 a comprehensive\, multidisciplinary\napproach to patient care and will col
 laborate with imaging specialists\,\ninterventional radiologists\, medical
  oncologists and other surgeons to ensure\npatients receive the safest and
  most effective treatment options. She is\ncommitted to teaching and engag
 ing with physician assistants and physician\ncolleagues in an environment
