DESCRIPTION:*LIVE WEBINAR VIA ZOOM*CEUs from this course WILL count towards
dental relicensure. A link to join the Zoom meeting will be emailed to al
l registrants ONE WEEK prior to the meeting date.Featured Clinician:Mana S
araghi\, D.M.D.Associate Professor of Dentistry\, Albert Einstein College
of MedicineSynopsis:Acute post-surgical dental pain is one of the most com
mon clinical challenges in dentistry\, yet prescribing practices remain hi
ghly variable and often inconsistent with current evidence. This two-hour
lecture provides a practical\, evidence-based update on postoperative anal
gesia with a focus on effective\, opioid-sparing strategies. We will revie
w the nociceptive pain pathways most relevant to dental surgery and examin
e the principles of multimodal analgesia\, emphasizing how targeted regime
ns can intercept pain at multiple points along the nociceptive pathway to
maximize efficacy and minimize adverse effects. Participants will gain a c
lear understanding of the mechanisms of action\, indications\, contraindic
ations and side-effect profiles of key analgesic classes\, including aceta
 minophen\, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs\, corticosteroids\, long-a
cting local anesthetics and opioids. This session is designed to translate
pharmacologic science into practical chairside decision-making\, equippin
g clinicians with evidence-based tools to deliver predictable postoperativ
e pain control while reducing reliance on opioid medications. Upon success
ful completion of this course\, participants will be able to: Describe the
pain pathways as they relate to acute post-surgical dental pain.Define mu
ltimodal analgesia.Explain the mechanism of action\, indications\, contrai
ndications and adverse drug reactions for the following medications or dru
 g classes: acetaminophen\, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory mediators\, cort
 icosteroids\, long-acting local anesthetics and opioids.MCEU - 2 HOURSTuit
