Synopsis:Many general dentists are following specialists in purchasing CBC
T machines for their practices. However\, general dentists do not obtain m
uch formal training during dental school about how to read CBCTs like many
specialty residency programs provide. This lecture will be an overview of
when to use CBCT and what to look for when reading CBCTs from an endodont
ist’s perspective. It will include: A basic overview of indications for CB
 CT (trauma\, endodontic anatomy\, implant placement\, pathology)\, includi
ng the American Association of Endodontics guidelines on CBCT use and othe
r specialty associations positions on CBCT indications of use and training
The basics of what to look for when reading and evaluating a CBCT will be
reviewed (size of image\, large vs. small field of view\, checklists\, nor
mal anatomy versus abnormal anatomy). We will also review how to set up CB
CT in parallax view for accurate reading and discuss evidence-based inform
ation (quoting studies on related CBCT topics). Examples of CBCT use from
the speaker’s practice in real-life scenarios as an endodontist (trauma ca
ses\, treatment planning in 2D versus 3D\, evaluating unique anatomy and h
ow it applies to intra-operative techniques\, evaluating post-operative he
aling and complications). Upon successful completion of this lecture\, att
endees will be able to identify common indications of CBCT use and their a
pplication in diagnosis\, treatment planning and follow-up\, especially in
  endodontics.MCEU - 1 HourFree for all SDDS membersJESSIE E. REISIG\, D.M.
